FAQ Speedpack machines

Frequently Asked Questions About the Speedpack 550 Order Fulfillment

General machine questions

An automatic bagger automatically feeds bags, opens them, leaves the product in and seals them with a seal. It works from pre-opened bags-on-roll or from tubular film, where the bag is custom shaped around the product. The machine type is mainly used in e-commerce, order fulfillment, warehouses and parts packaging. Audion carries this series under the name Speedpack.

An automatic bagger is usually the fastest route: the machine presents the bag, opens it, the operator loads the product and the bag is sealed in one cycle. Within the Speedpack line, the tabletop model achieves up to 20 bags per minute, the 300 Highspeed up to 40 and the floor-standing models up to 60 bags per minute with pre-opened bags-on-roll. Compared to a manual packing station, that amounts to about five times the output.

With a Dual machine that can handle both materials. The Speedpack 300 Dual, the 400 Dual and the 550 Dual run both pre-opened paper bags and PE bags, so you can choose per order or per batch and switch gradually. The paper Paper SpeedBags are FSC certified. So you don't have to buy a new machine if regulations or a customer asks for paper.

The Speedpack can be fitted with a thermal transfer printer or a label printer that prints or labels each bag as it is being supplied. The coding system links directly to your local ERP, so that every bag contains the correct order details, barcode or address. This eliminates the separate label step and the chance of a wrong sticker. On the Order Fulfillment models, this is standard as a next-bag-out print.

With approximately 500 e-commerce orders per day, not only the daily volume is decisive, but especially the desired processing time, product and bag size, packaging material and any automation. For the Speedpack 300 series, Audion therefore advises to choose from the application: the TT Eco is the entry-level model, the TT Advanced is intended for applications where further automation is required and the TT Highspeed for applications where a high output is central. The Highspeed is aimed at small PE or spare parts bags and achieves up to 40 cycles per minute under suitable conditions. For the Eco and Advanced, the output is around 15 bags per minute according to the internal product introduction, depending on configuration and product conditions.
For 500 orders per day, a model from the 300 series can therefore already offer more than enough capacity. A 400 Order Fulfillment may make sense when the complete order fulfillment setup and further automation are desired, but Audion does not have an official fixed advice in 'orders per day' per model. The right choice is therefore best determined on the basis of the desired output per hour and the specific application.

From tubular film, the machine makes each bag to the length of the product, so changing dimensions are no problem and no adjustment is necessary. The 400 Hybrid handles bag lengths from 50 to 800 mm with bag widths of 50 to 400 mm; the 550 Hybrid goes up to 900 mm in length and 550 mm in width. For extra-long or flat products, there is the 400 Horizontal with unlimited bag length.

A machine with validatable seal bars that measures, monitors and logs sealing time, sealing temperature and sealing pressure. The Speedpack 400 High Speed Medical & Pharma is designed for this purpose: stainless steel version, suitable for cleanrooms and working according to ISO 11607-1 and 11607-2, ISO/TS 16775, EN 868-5 and ASTM F1929. Audion has its own calibration engineers who perform IQ/OQ tests and issue a calibration certificate.

The Speedpack has an integrated coding system that communicates directly with your local ERP, ensuring that the correct data is printed on each bag. In addition, there is a handshake interface and an error signal to communicate with peripherals such as feeding systems, dosing units, robots and conveyors. The 300 Highspeed is explicitly offered as a WMS integrable. {SUPPLEMENT: Which protocols and physical interfaces are supported exactly.}

Bags-on-roll (SpeedBags) are pre-opened and have a fixed size: simple, quick to change and the fastest pace, up to 60 bags per minute. Tubular film is a film tubing whose machine customizes each bag, which saves material and does not require a stock of bag sizes, but is slightly slower (10 to 40 bags per minute). bags-on-roll are easier, tubular film is cheaper with widely varying product sizes.

A dredge fills a bag that has already been formed or is made on site from tubular film, and is intended for general cargo such as parts, clothing and e-commerce orders. A vertical form-fill-and-seal machine shapes the bag from flat film and fills from the top, which is better suited to bulk materials such as powder, granules and snacks. Audion supplies both types; the Speedpack line falls into the first category.

Cost-saving questions

Audion does not publish prices online because each Speedpack is configured by product, foil, speed and desired options. In practice, the payback period is mainly determined by saved labor hours, less film per order and lower shipping costs due to smaller packages. {ADDITION: indicative price ranges per series and a calculation example of the payback period, so that this question can be answered concretely in the FAQ.}

By making bags to measure instead of working with fixed sizes. The hybrid Speedpack models work from tubular film and form each bag around the product, making the package smaller and lighter. A lower dimensional weight immediately means lower shipping costs, especially now that more and more carriers determine their rate based on the size of the shipment.

By automating the packaging process around the bag. With manual packing, packing, opening and closing the bag takes a lot of time. A Speedpack automates these steps and prints the shipping label in the same cycle. This allows one operator to process significantly more orders per hour. Audion calculates with an output that is about five times higher than with a manual packing station.

Three things: speed, material and labor. The output is roughly five times higher than a manual station, you save film as soon as you pack from tubular film to size, and you need fewer packing places and therefore less warehouse space. What exactly it yields in your situation depends on order volume, product mix and bag sizes; Audion is happy to calculate this with you on the basis of your own packaging.

Work from tubular film. The machine then custom-makes each bag around the product, so you still have one material in stock instead of ten sizes. Moreover, there is no longer any changeover time between products of different sizes: the bag length is chosen at the touch of a button or via the barcode of the order. The 400 Hybrid, 400 Order Fulfillment, 550 Hybrid, and 550 Order Fulfillment work this way.

An automatic dredging absorbs peaks without additional packing stations or temporary workers. The machine maintains the same cycle time regardless of volume, and you can scale up with a faster model or an additional unit. For seasonal peaks in e-commerce, this is usually the cheapest solution; The Speedpack 550 Order Fulfillment is specifically designed for warehouses with pronounced order peaks.

In three ways. You pack to size from tubular film, which means that less film is needed per order and the package becomes smaller. You can switch to FSC-certified paper or coex film with 70 percent recycled content. And with two-way mailer bags with return strip, the customer reuses the same packaging for the return, saving a second package. All three reduce material costs at the same time.

Specification questions

That depends on the model. Only the Speedpack 300 is fully electric and does not require a compressed air connection: a standard 230 V socket is sufficient. All other models work pneumatically and require 6 bar at 200 to 500 Nl/min; the 400 High Speed Medical & Pharma requires 7 bar. If there is no compressed air in the warehouse, the electric tabletop model is the logical choice.

The tabletop models of the 300 series measure 450 x 650 x 595 mm (L x W x H) and fit on an existing work table. The floor-standing models of the 400 series measure 1100 x 900 x 1100 mm, or 1275 x 845 x 1065 mm including foil in the highest position. The 550 series measures 1560 x 1144 x 1489 mm (+200 mm depending on configuration).

Depending on the model: pre-opened PE bags-on-roll (SpeedBags), tubular film for custom bags, fanfold paper bags, laminate and medical paper laminate. The film thickness is between 25 and 150 microns for the tabletop models and between 40 and 125 microns for the floor-standing models; paper between 90 and 120 grams per square meter. Audion supplies the foil itself, including coex mailer foil made from 70 percent recycled material.

The Easy Touch Sensor is a wearable sensor that detects when the operator's hand leaves the loading zone and then automatically cycles the machine. As a result, there is no need to operate a button or foot switch. This saves one action per bag and provides speed and better ergonomics, especially for repetitive work. The sensor is available on the 300 series benchtop models.

Audion supplies stainless steel feed hoppers in various sizes, the Optiweigh table counter with weighing bin, the Optimizer with conveyor system for packing parts sets, and the ATBI intermittent discharge belt. In addition, the machine can communicate with robots, dosing systems and existing conveyor belts via handshake and error signal. In this way, a stand-alone bagger grows step by step into a fully automated packaging line.
